About

British Aluminium Consortium for Advanced Alloys

We are convening world-leading businesses and industry experts to localise aluminium recycling and manufacture, securing the future capacity of ultra-low carbon alloys and enabling a more sustainable aluminium industry.

The British Aluminium Consortium for Advanced Alloys (BACALL) is partnering with some of the world’s biggest companies, including Diageo, to re-imagine the supply chain and support their journey to net zero.

Our Mission

A circular economy for aluminium in the UK

Developing a UK-centric, closed loop solution

As a unique group of industry experts, we’re creating a UK-centric, circular economy for aluminium. Our closed loop solution will produce ultra low carbon aluminium sheet from local end of life material in the UK, helping to improve the sustainability and future capacity for aluminium for the UK’s beverage, automotive and construction industries.

Our Mission

A circular economy for aluminium in the UK

Cutting carbon emissions, costs and time

Aluminium is one of the most recyclable materials on Earth. BACALL is taking a distinctive approach that will see it processed entirely in the UK, ridding the need to take recycled metal in and out of the country. This cuts carbon emissions, costs and time.

Our Mission

A circular economy for aluminium in the UK

Bringing the aluminium industry back to the UK

BACALL is re-shoring the strategically important aluminium supply chain to the UK. Applying state of the art processes, the project will create an integrated recycling, casting and rolling facility for rolled products.

Our Mission

A circular economy for aluminium in the UK

“We urgently need to change the current system which sees the UK export much of its aluminium scrap but at the same time import nearly all its aluminium sheet. Doing so should see a significant carbon footprint reduction. I applaud BACALL for beginning this process.” – Geoff Scamans, Professor of Metallurgy at Brunel University

Building a new UK-based aluminium plant

We are building an advanced aluminium recycling, casting and rolling plant in the UK, which will roll aluminium sheet made exclusively from UK aluminium scrap.

We are currently evaluating a number of suitable sites. Once built, we will have the capacity to produce hundreds of thousands of tonnes of aluminium sheet and create hundreds of direct jobs across the UK.
